Choose the destination, not just a familiar number
A profile image, story and banner can use different shapes on the same platform. Start with the surface you intend to publish to, then choose its corresponding bundled preset. A portrait-shaped output is not automatically the correct answer for every use of a portrait photograph.
The presets are part of the release, not a live feed of platform specifications. Check the current upload preview and platform documentation before final publication. A platform can also crop differently on desktop and mobile even when it accepts the exported dimensions.
Fill means accepting a crop
Fill/Crop scales the picture to cover the target canvas, then removes content outside the frame. This can be useful for a thumbnail, but it can cut heads, products or text at the edges. Inspect both the top and bottom of a portrait image in a short landscape frame.
Use a copy whose composition has enough spare space when possible. A tight original portrait gives the resizer less room to adapt. If all the content must remain, compare the Fit option before deciding that an aggressive crop is acceptable.
Fit preserves the scene with remaining space
Fit keeps the full image inside the selected canvas. Remaining space can be visible around it. For a group photograph, that may be more useful than filling the frame and losing people at the sides.
Treat the margins as part of the design. If the receiving platform displays the image on another background or crops it again, inspect the actual preview. Preserving the full input in the exported canvas does not control every later display decision made by the platform.
Stretch changes the subject’s proportions
Stretch reaches the requested dimensions by changing the width and height independently. It can make a face wider, a product taller or a logo visibly misshapen. Use it only when the content tolerates that distortion.
A simple texture may tolerate stretching better than a person or a circular logo. Judge the subject rather than assuming that an exact canvas size makes an output correct. For ordinary photographs, Fit or a considered crop is usually easier to review.
Export and test the receiving preview
Choose JPG, PNG or WebP according to the upload requirements and need for transparency. Download, reopen the file and inspect essential text at realistic size. Keep it away from outer edges where a later crop could remove it.
For a profile photo displayed as a circle, the exported square’s corners may not be visible. Leave space around the head. For a banner, test the platform’s preview on more than one screen if possible. The ImgProcess tool prepares a still image; it does not edit video or guarantee platform acceptance.
Check the posted result on more than one device
A correctly sized source can still be cropped, compressed or partially covered by the destination interface. Preview a banner or profile placement on desktop and a narrow device when it matters. Keep important text away from interface overlays and edges.
The available presets prepare still images. They do not create video footage, resize a video Reel or guarantee that a platform has not changed its requirements. Use the platform’s current instructions for the final publishing decision.
