How to use Image Investigation
1. Select your input
Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP image from your device using the file button or supported drop area. The standard file picker accepts browser-readable images up to 25 MB; decoding support depends on the file and browser.
2. Understand the settings
Read and accept the analysis disclaimer. The report separates assessment, confidence, evidence strength and unavailable checks. A second acknowledgment precedes report download.
3. Process and review
Select the image, enter the requested case details, accept the disclaimer, run analysis and inspect each evidence section before downloading the report.
4. Save your result
Review the evidence and capability notices. Accept the report-download disclaimer and use the report control. Preserve the original file and record the case context separately.
Supported formats
Input: a browser-readable image up to 25 MB. Maps are derived working views; the acknowledged report download is PDF. Keep the original source separately.
When to use this tool
Review available AI detector assessments, image metadata, hashes and forensic signals together. Connected checks require a configured service and the analysis acknowledgment.
What to check in the result
Scores are not percentages of edited pixels. Screenshots, recompression and partial edits can affect signals, and an unavailable engine has not assessed the file. Independent review is needed for consequential use.
Continue with Image Metadata Viewer when that step fits your workflow.
A practical example
Compare the report’s available evidence with the original camera file and contextual records in a human review.
Capabilities and limitations
A detector score is not the percentage of pixels edited. Connected checks may send the selected image to a configured service; missing engines must remain unavailable.
Troubleshooting
If a connected test is unavailable, review the reported status and integration configuration. Do not treat an unavailable test as completed or a confidence score as a percentage of altered pixels.
Processing and privacy
Local checks run on your device. When configured and activated, connected detection can send the selected image to an external service. Read the preserved acknowledgments and report limits before analysis; unavailable engines do not constitute evidence.
Questions about Image Investigation
Does confidence mean the percentage of edited pixels?
No. It describes analytical confidence within the implemented assessment, not an edited-area measurement.
Can this conclusively prove an image is authentic?
No. Interpret signals, alternatives and unavailable tests with human review; the acknowledgments and disclaimer remain required.
Can this detect every AI-generated image?
No. Available detectors can miss AI-generated images or flag genuine photographs. A configured connected detector is required for its assessment; local evidence alone must not be presented as a completed AI detector test.
Can a screenshot affect AI image detection?
Yes. Screenshots and recompression change the available pixels and often remove metadata. Inspect the original file when possible and record the transformation as a limitation.
Can I measure exactly how much of a photo was AI edited?
This tool does not provide a validated percentage-of-edited-pixels measurement. Review the completed checks and regions or observations suggested for human review; detector scores are not area measurements.
