TOOL-SPECIFIC GUIDE

How to use Colorize Image

1. Select your input

Choose a black-and-white JPG, PNG or WebP and follow the dimensions and size limit shown by the tool. Leave time for the local engine to load on first use.

2. Understand the settings

Choose JPG, PNG or WebP within the displayed limits. After the first draft, tune strength and brightness or select a colour region and replace it with a chosen colour.

3. Process and review

Create the first colourization, compare it, select an incorrect colour such as orange and replace it with purple, apply the correction and export.

4. Save your result

Use the result’s Download control after processing. Keep your original separately and inspect the exported copy at its intended display size; the preview alone is not the file you will share.

Supported formats

Input: JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 20 MB and 12 megapixels. Export PNG, JPG or WebP; original-resolution output still depends on device memory.

When to use this tool

Generate an automatic colour draft with the local model, then replace colours that do not match your intended treatment. Keep a separate black-and-white original.

What to check in the result

Plausible skin, clothing and scenery colours can still be historically wrong. Use references when available and identify the colourized image as an edited copy.

Continue with Restore Old Photo when that step fits your workflow.

A practical example

Correct a predicted clothing colour using family knowledge while leaving skin and background alone.

Capabilities and limitations

Colours are estimates, not proof of original appearance. First use loads an approximately 130 MB local engine; large images need memory.

Troubleshooting

If model loading is slow, allow the bundled browser model to finish loading. If a region has the wrong hue, use the region correction controls and compare boundaries.

Processing and privacy

Image pixels are processed on your device. Loading the website and processing assets still uses a network connection, and hosting may receive normal request information. Keep original files backed up.

Questions about Colorize Image

Can I replace a predicted orange region with purple?

Yes. Use the color-correction region controls to select and recolour the affected area, then review the update.

Are predicted colours historically accurate?

Not necessarily. The model predicts plausible colours; reference material and user corrections are needed for accuracy.
