How to use Restore Old Photo
1. Select your input
Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP image from your device using the file button or supported drop area. Follow the displayed 20 MB/12 MP limit; smaller images reduce processing memory.
2. Understand the settings
JPG, PNG and WebP up to 20 MB/12 MP, with no side above 6000 pixels. Automatic restoration comes first; correction controls follow. Brush repair handles scratches; the optional neural mode uses the bundled reconstruction model and loads it into the browser on first use.
3. Process and review
Run the automatic draft, adjust fading/noise/detail if necessary, repair small scratches separately, compare and download a copy.
4. Save your result
Use the result’s Download control after processing. Keep your original separately and inspect the exported copy at its intended display size; the preview alone is not the file you will share.
Supported formats
Input: JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 20 MB and 12 megapixels. Available exports are PNG, JPG and WebP; choose PNG or WebP when transparency is needed.
When to use this tool
Improve fading and grain, review the automatic draft and mark scratches for local repair or the available neural reconstruction option.
What to check in the result
Review faces, writing and repaired patterns closely. Missing regions are estimated; neural reconstruction needs the bundled model to load and does not verify historical accuracy.
Continue with Colorize Image when that step fits your workflow.
A practical example
Restore a scanned family photo in stages, inspecting the face after each scratch repair rather than repairing a broad region in one pass.
Capabilities and limitations
Reconstruction guesses damaged content; it cannot establish the original face or missing scene. Advanced mode is unavailable until its model files are installed.
Troubleshooting
If scratch repair creates a smear, undo and repair a smaller region. If neural reconstruction cannot load, check that the bundled model was copied with the project and allow time for its first browser load; use quick local repair meanwhile.
Processing and privacy
Image pixels are processed on your device. Loading the website and processing assets still uses a network connection, and hosting may receive normal request information. Keep original files backed up.
Questions about Restore Old Photo
Does restoration include scratches?
Yes. Brush-selected repair estimates damaged pixels. Complex missing regions may benefit from the optional advanced reconstruction model.
Does face enhancement recover exact identity detail?
No. Detail refinement and reconstruction are estimates; keep the original and avoid treating the output as historical evidence.
